Studio YYC

Studio YYC is a wellness-centred interior design and decor business located in Calgary, Alberta. Through it, founder and owner, Michelle Thorkelson, works to unite health and design to bring wellness to people’s homes.

As a WELL Accredited Professional with a B.Sc. in Environmental Science, Michelle aims to design spaces for people that provide them the support they need to live their healthiest life. Whether that’s updating an old design, improving space functionality, maximizing natural light, or even alleviating airborne allergens, her work is designed to feed our innate human need to connect with nature and each other.

Just getting her business up and running, Michelle wanted to start off on the right foot, with a polished and professional appearance that evoked the confidence in her as a designer that she knew she would deliver. Drawing inspiration from biophilia, which has been found to support cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being in design, the new brand identity utilizes the lush, rich colors found in the natural world and evokes the sense of quiet calm that Studio YYC’s homes provides to their inhabitants. We made some slight adjustments to the brand identity to establish better spatial relations and scale, and created some supporting graphic elements and standards for font and color usage, all of which established the solid footing Michelle needed.
